VicHealth aims to build safe, accessible, inclusive and equitable sport and recreation environments.

VicHealth has a long history of working with the sports sector to promote health and wellbeing. Our long-standing relationships within the sports sector allow us to work closely with clubs and associations.

Sports clubs play a natural leadership role in the community and provide a unique opportunity to shape attitudes. Many of the entrenched beliefs and behaviours that shape our culture are played out in sports settings. In addition, participation in sports and physical activity allows people to build a healthy sense of belonging.

VicHealth has initiated a number of programs in the sport sector to promote equal and respectful relationships between men and women and to build environments that are safe, accessible, inclusive and equitable for women and girls.

Respect and Responsibility Program

Australian Football League

The national Respect and Responsibility Program commenced in 2005 with the launch of the Australian Football League’s respect and responsibility policy. The program represents the AFL's commitment to addressing violence against women and working towards creating safe, supportive and inclusive environments for women and girls across the football industry, both at the elite level and within the broader community.

Fair Game: Respect Matters

AFL Victoria

The Fair Game: Respect Matters program works closely with community clubs across Victoria to develop safe and respectful environments for girls and women. AFL Victoria is committed to the creation of welcoming, socially inclusive environments that are based on respect.

Everyone Wins

Everyone Wins is a program to assist sport and recreation organisations to create more inclusive, safe and welcoming environments for all participants. The program will enable sport associations and clubs to increase the participation of women and girls, Indigenous Australians, people from culturally diverse communities, and people with a disability.

Healthy Sporting Environments

The Healthy Sporting Environments project aims to build sports clubs that promote health and wellbeing.
