With the support of Neometro and our 12 fabulous growers, a vacant car park has been transformed into a temporary urban agriculture oasis. The beautifully designed garden is made out of repurposed intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) that have been turned into wicking beds. 

Those first little seedlings have now flourished into an array of edibles and as the seasons begin to change, a winter planting workshop is on our agenda of things to do. The workshop will teach basics about what is best to grow and how, now that the weather is getting a little chillier. 

The garden as of April 2014:

Since the launch of the 3000acres website in February as well as the map of potential growing sites, established community gardens around Melbourne and Victoria have been filling up. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to sign up to our website and add to a map at any time.

A second big event was also recently held at the Little Smith St site thanks to the Urban Fabric collective. 3000acres partnered with the Urban Fabric to host the first Melbourne-based ‘Secret Cinema’ night. The warehouse next door to the 3000acres garden housed a beautiful make-shirt cinema, with recycled milk crates and pallets used for seating. People rugged up and snuggled in to enjoy a collection of 12 short films from local filmmakers, as well as a live acoustic set to end the night.

The first 3000acres newsletter has been written and sent out to our subscribers to keep them up to date with 3000acres work.
