Many of Victorias recently-arrived residents who come from different cultural backgrounds have not needed, or had the opportunity, to learn about water safety.

For these reasons, they are at a greater risk of injury or drowning than other members of the community. In this project young people from the Karan community are learning essential water safety messages and are taught how to swim in a VicHealth-funded project run by Lifesaving Victoria. Lifesaving Victoria is one of more than 60 organisations VicHealth funds across Victoria under the Participation in Community Sport and Active Recreation (PICSAR) program.
