Bells Beach, VIC/AUS: Local surfers will get the chance to surf Bells Beach with only four other surfers out this Spring for the Team Up Charity Challenge.

The event is in its second year and gives local surfers the chance to surf their home break whilst raising money for charity.

The event, which is scheduled to take place on November 15, is run as a teams format allowing the surfers to partner up with their mates in groups of five.

Entry is free, however all competitors must show evidence of downloading the TeamUp app on their mobile phones and be a resident of the Surf Coast Shire.

Teams must consist of an Under 18, Over 35 and 3 Open surfers (any mix of Male & Female).

Surfing Victoria CEO, Max Wells, is looking forward to another gathering of local surfers in one of the top waves in the region.

“This event really is a way to give back to the surfers who are regular surfers at Bells Beach and are lucky enough to have the iconic beach in their back yard.”

“Not only do they get to surf Bells with only a few other out, it is all for a good cause with $1000 to be donated to charity.”

“VicHealth’s physical activity App, TeamUp, have been a great support of Surfing Victoria for the last 2 years and this is another one of the great events that they help us provide to the community.”

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said surfing was just one of the many sports and activities that people could get involved in through TeamUp.

“Spring for the Team Up Charity Challenge is a great example of VicHealth’s TeamUp app bringing people together to get out, get active and have fun. Regular physical activity can help reduce the onset of disease including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, some forms of cancer and obesity.

“TeamUp links people with a range of opportunities across 100 sports and activities so they can choose what suits them best, whether its surfing, netball, jogging or yoga; there’s something for everyone – from beginners to sporting ninjas!”
